Gliding for a Good Cause

The dedication and commitment of the amazing group of employees we have at Borough Care never fails to impress us.

It is their giving and caring nature that make them so well suited to a career in care, which is why, although it came as no surprise to us, we are thrilled to share with you the latest fundraising endeavours by two very intrepid members of staff from Lisburne Court.

Donna and Michelle wanted to raise funds for Lisburne’s resident amenity fund, this pot of cash sits in each of the homes and provides treats and activities for the residents in the home. Our amenity funds have provided everything from refreshing ice-creams on a hot day to building a dementia friendly café.

There are plenty of ways to raise money for a good cause, but Donna and Michelle didn’t go for an easy one. They took on the heady challenge of riding a glider at Bowland Forest Gliding Club on 20th July. Donna and Michelle were in the steady hands of pilot Steven, the son of a resident from Lisburne Court, who gave up his time on the day and allowed us the use of his glider for free. We’re relieved to say that they all made it back safely and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. They also raised a whopping £600 which will go straight to the Lisburne Court Garden Refurbishment Project.

Donna said: “Our residents love to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air, and nothing would give us greater pleasure than making our garden an even more special place for them to enjoy. So, we decided to put our money where our mouth is and take on this terrifying challenge to try and raise funds. Despite being petrified, it was an incredible experience and I’m so happy we raised £600 for this great cause. Thank you to everyone who sponsored us.”

Thank you to everyone who supported Donna and Michelle, by cheering them on and sponsoring their efforts. And a huge thanks to pilot Steven, without his generosity, this fundraising experience wouldn’t have been possible.
