Borough Care will be marking Care Home Open Day with a range of activities. Now in its seventh year, Care Home Open Day is a national event to encourage people to visit care homes in their community, see the work that goes on and get involved in activities. This year’s Care Home Open Day takes place on Friday 28 June and will be celebrating the role of art in care.
Dr Mark Ward, CEO at Borough Care, says: “Care Home Open Day is a great way for us to promote the excellent work that goes on in our homes and highlight the range of services and activities we provide. At Borough Care, we believe it’s really important to offer residents lots of stimulating activities they can get involved in. Being creative has many health and social benefits and our regular art and craft sessions are popular with residents. With art being the theme of this year’s Open Day, it’s a great opportunity to showcase some of their work. Some people still have misconceptions about what life is like in a care home and we’re keen to dispel any myths by inviting people to see first-hand what our residents get up to and the range of activities they get involved in.”
The art theme of this year’s Care Home Open Day is being widely embraced at Borough Care’s homes. The company is putting on lots of different activities, to encourage families, friends and members of the community to visit one of its homes and get involved.
Residents at Cawood House in Brinnington will be joined for the day by children from Brinnington’s Ladybird Childcare group, along with their parents. The residents and children will get creative with an arts and craft session. Following a buffet with entertainment, there will be outdoor games for everyone to enjoy.
Residents at Bamford Close in Cale Green will also be visited by children on the day. Pupils from Cale Green Primary School will be joining residents for art and craft sessions and will also be entertaining them by singing some songs. Spending time with children really lifts residents’ spirits and Borough Care arranges lots of intergenerational activity at its homes. Residents have the opportunity to engage with young children through regular visits from nursery and child-minding groups.
Residents at Meadway Court in Bramhall have been designing, painting and colouring a butterfly frieze, which will be displayed at the home.
An artist, who takes classes at Offerton community centre, will be visiting Lisburne Court to lead an arts and crafts session. Two of the residents from Lisburne Court regularly attend the classes and enjoy painting and drawing.
Staff at Marbury House in Heaton Chapel will be inspiring residents to get creative by decorating plates, cups and plant pots.
Staff at Silverdale in Bredbury will be running craft sessions for residents, which will be followed by entertainment from singing duo Lisa and Adam Maggs.
Plus, Bruce Lodge in Offerton, Bryn Haven in Brinnington & Shepley House in Hazel Grove will all be getting creative with arts and crafts sessions during the day.
